Inclusive education includes special education and non-formal education.
Special education aims to guarantee all practices and services designed to support people with specific needs or disabilities, enabling them to develop their abilities and actively participate in society. The missions of special education are:
Special education aims to help people with disabilities develop their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical abilities.
Special education aims to promote the autonomy and independence of people with disabilities, so that they can make decisions and act responsibly.
Special education aims to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities by offering them opportunities for social participation, leisure activities, and personal development.
Special education also offers support to the families of people with disabilities, providing them with advice, social and psycho-educational resources, and support services.
Special education seeks to promote the social and socio-professional inclusion of people with disabilities by offering them opportunities for participation and integration through special education (aimed at developing cognitive and social skills), psychotherapy, occupational therapy, academic support, and leisure activities (leisure and recreation services are offered to people with disabilities so that they can enjoy themselves and develop) in order to develop their functional and emotional abilities.
Established through a Formal Literacy Center (CAF), formal education includes basic education (bilingual kindergarten and French-language primary school). Non-formal education, which includes kindergarten and primary school, plays a crucial role in children’s development by providing inclusive education.
Indeed, the fundamental mission of formal education is that contained in Article 4 of Law No. 98/004 of April 1998 on education policy in Cameroon, which states that “The general mission of education is to train children for their intellectual, physical, civic, and moral development and their harmonious integration into society, taking into account economic, sociocultural, political, and moral factors.”
Under the general mission defined in Article 4 of the above-mentioned Framework Law on Education in Cameroon, the objectives of education are:
-To train citizens who are rooted in their culture but open to the world and respectful of the general interest and the common good;
-Training in the great universal ethical values of dignity and honor, honesty and integrity, and a sense of discipline;
-Education for family life;
-The promotion of national languages;
-Introduction to the culture and practice of democracy, respect for human rights and freedoms, justice and tolerance, the fight against all forms of discrimination, love of peace and dialogue, civic responsibility, and the promotion of regional and subregional integration;
